It revs higher than the 1000 at the same speed but has a smoother engine and better fuel economy anyway. The difference is power. If a rider want's the 1000's power, that's all she wrote. Go for it. There is no other reason to prefer a 1000 over a 650. It's the only reason necessary if that's what the rider wants.
